Echinacea is a herbaceous and shrubby plant of the Asteraceae or Compositae family can reach about 60 cm in length. Its flowering period takes place in the spring-summer season being an attractive point for bees and butterflies. Echinacea is a plant that grows in regions with Mediterranean, tropical and oceanic climates. In the ancestors, echinacea was used to neutralize snake venom and relieve toothaches.

The consumption of echinacea tea has been practised for about 500 years by the native North American people due to its medicinal properties. Today, echinacea tea continues to be a great natural solution for these needs, as well as for the relief and treatment of symptoms caused by colds and flu. Echinacea tea is recognized for its beneficial action in strengthening defences and reducing anxiety, hypertension, and cholesterol. It may also contribute to the control of blood sugar levels (glycaemia) and also contribute to the healing of skin wounds. Part of its benefits will be directly linked to the treatment of inflammation and urinary infections.

Water temperature: 85º to 100º

Boiling time: 3 to 10 minutes.

Infusion time: 15 minutes

Recommended quantity: 1 tablespoon of echinacea root per litre of water. You should consume up to 1L of echinacea tea at different times daily.

Preparation: place the ingredient in a bowl with cold water for about 2 minutes. Then bring to the boil and let it boil for 3 to 10 minutes. After boiling, covers the container and let it rest for 15 minutes. The method applies to echinacea tea made from roots, bark, and stalks. If you don't like the taste of this tea, you can add a little ginger or mint to soften it.

Store in a cool (max. 20º) and dry place (max. 60% humidity).

Echinacea Root Infusion (Echinacea purpurea)

Predominant Flavour: Earthy with a slight tingle

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of Echinacea Root (5g)
  • 1 teaspoon of Linden Flowers (2g)
  • 1 teaspoon of Elderflower (1g)
  • 1 teaspoon of Peppermint Leaves (1g)

Preparation:

  1. Place the Echinacea root in a pot with 300ml of cold water.
  2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Turn off the heat and add the Linden Flowers, Elderflower, and Peppermint Leaves.
  4. Let it steep for 5 minutes, strain and serve.

Flavour Balance: The earthy, tingling qualities of Echinacea are softened by the sweet floral notes of Linden and Elderflower, while the Peppermint adds a refreshing finish that makes this infusion particularly enjoyable.
