Chicory Root Tea

Chicory is scientifically called "Cichorium intybus" and is considered a perennial plant (long life cycle) with just over a meter in height. This plant grows with great ease in regions with temperate climates, and it's found in abundance in North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Usually, the flowering period takes place between July and September.

Ingredients: 100% Chicory root (Cichorium intybus L.) from the Asteraceae family.

Chicory root is an excellent choice for those who prefer not to consume foods with caffeine. Thanks to the presence of 30 antioxidant compounds, chicory can help to strengthen your defences. In addition, it may contribute to the elimination of gastric and intestinal gases. Consumption of this tea is associated with reduced anxiety and weight loss. In Egyptian antiquity, chicory components were frequent use due to their beneficial properties in treating certain conditions. In addition, it was considered an ideal substitute for coffee and as a vegetable. To enjoy these properties, the Egyptians ground the roots, flowers, and leaves. In Greco-Roman antiquity, the leaves of this plant were placed in salads for the same reason. Currently, chicory is produced in countries even as Germany, Belgium, and Spain.

The benefits of chicory are diverse because it contains a nutritional capacity essential for the functioning of your body in general. Considered a medicinal plant is a rich source of vitamins A, B6, and C, even as fibre, proteins, carbohydrates, potassium, calcium, iron, and magnesium. In just 100gr of chicory, you will enjoy 1.5 mg of iron, which in practice corresponds to about 10% of your daily needs.

Infusion time: 5 to 10 minutes.

Preparation: place 1L of boiled water on the top of four tablespoons of chicory root. Cover the recipient and let it stand for five to ten minutes. Finally, strain the tea, and it's ready to consume.

Recommended quantity: three to four cups daily, before or after each meal.

Warnings: it should not be consumed by people suffering from heartburn or gastric reflux. Pregnant women and infants should seek medical advice before taking it.

Store in a cool, dry place.
