In Greek and Chinese antiquity, Licorice became popular due to its therapeutic potential in addition to being an excellent natural sweetener. While in Finland, it was even used to add flavour to some alcoholic beverages, such as vodka. This plant from the Fabaceae family is originally from Europe and the East. Currently, Licorice root is produced in some regions of the world to be used in industrial products such as beer and gum. Because it has 50 times more sweetening power, Licorice root infusion can have an intense and sweet taste.
Licorice tea can act as an antioxidant solution, helping to cleanse the body. However, Licorice is recognized for its contribution to relieving infections that impair the normal functioning of the lungs, kidneys, and stomach. It may also promote the strengthening of defences.
Therapeutic indications: asthma, bronchitis, cough, bad breath, dermatitis, gastric ulcer, diabetes, flu, and indigestion.
Water temperature: 100º
Infusion time: 5 to 10 minutes.
Recommended quantity: 3 to 4 cups a day. The first cup should be taken on an empty stomach, and the rest after each main meal.
Preparation: Place two tablespoons of licorice in a litre (1 L) of boiled water. Then cover the container and let it infuse for 5 to 10 minutes. Finally, strain it, let it cool down a bit, and you can consume it immediately.
