Genmaicha - Japanese Green Tea

Genmaicha is a tea type made by blending premium quality Bancha or Sencha with puffed rice. Rice grains addiction allows for mitigating the bitterness naturally characteristic of Green Teas.

Ingredients: Japanese Green Tea Bancha with puffed rice.

Origin: Japan

Characteristics: Mild corn flavour and a long, flat leaf. Contains a roasted, almond, and slightly salty flavour.

What is Genmaicha Green Tea?

Genmaicha Tea is a traditional Japanese green tea also known as “Pop Corn Tea”. This type of green tea is thought to have been created by poor Japanese people who needed to add puffed rice to green tea to make it yield more. This option allowed the poorer Japanese to continue to consume green tea for a low price. When rice is roasted, sometimes some grains burst and turn into popcorn. Because it has less green tea in a single dose, Genmaicha contains less theine content.

It is an excellent choice for hot tea in winter, either in the morning or in the afternoon. It is also used as a digestive tea, after meals, or in the evening as a relaxing tea to relieve muscle tension. It is also one of the most popular green teas to drink during breakfast because Genmaicha has a comforting flavour that is somewhat reminiscent of coffee. Hence, it can be consumed by children and the elderly.
