Marigold – Native to Central Africa, Marigold is a plant popularly known for its yellow-orange flowers that follow the sun's routine. “Calendula officinalis” is one of 12 species belonging to the genus “Calendula” of the family “Asteraceae” (better known as Daisies), similar to the sunflower. Each plant is recognized by the opening of its flowers with the dawn and dusk of the sun. Besides being used as an element of urban landscaping, Marigold is cultivated for medicinal purposes and the production of cosmetic products. In Classic Antiquity, will have been used for the production of textile dye. For the Romans, Marigold was a reflection of happiness.
In their natural state, Marigold flowers have a sweet-sour flavour and are used in salads and soups. In poultry feed, Marigold flowers are used in supplements to intensify the colour of meat and egg yolk. The origin of Marigold is still unknown, although it is known to be a plant with little resistance to soil drought. The leaves and flowers of Marigolds are the only edible parts that can be used.
The word “Marigold” is derived from the Latin “Calendae” which translates as “the first day of each month”.

Recommended quantity: one tablespoon per cup (250ml). To prepare 1L (1000ml) of Marigold Tea, add four tablespoons of Marigold Flowers. You can consume 3 to 4 cups of tea per day, outside the main meals.
How to prepare: put one tablespoon of Marigold in a container with 250ml of boiled water. Cover and leave to infuse for 5 minutes. Finally, strain it, let it cool down a little and consume it. You can add some honey and cinnamon.
Store in a cool, dry place away from light.
