Called “Maytenus ilicifolia”, Espinheira Santa is a medicinal plant widely used as a natural solution in the treatment of gastric problems from reflux, gastritis, burning, or dyspepsia. It can also help fight the H. Pylori bacteria that develop in the digestive system. Originating in the southern region of Brazil, Espinheira Santa is a plant belonging to the Celastraceae family, very beneficial for various gastric and intestinal issues. Its composition contains fridenellol (oil with a protective effect on the stomach), tonic and silicic acid (with antiseptic and healing properties).

This powerful plant contains a high amount of tannins that may help in the healing of ulcerous lesions in the stomach to control the production of hydrochloric acid. In addition to this action, tannins may contribute to the stoppage of fermentation that occurs from the digestive tract to the intestine due to their antiseptic property. It was about 90 years ago that the first studies of this plant appeared.

Due to its diuretic property, the consumption of Espinheira Santa Tea can promote the treatment of certain diseases of the urinary system. However, this requires control due to its influence on the elimination of essential mineral salts for the proper functioning of the body. It can also contribute to the reduction of acne and eczema by healing the skin.

Water temperature: 100º

Infusion time: 4 to 5 minutes.

Preparation: place a teabag for every cup of boiled water. Let it rest, and you can consume it immediately, hot or cold.

Recommended quantity: 2 cups daily.

Store in a dry (max. 20º) and cool (max. 60% humidity) place.
