Peanut – scientifically called “Arachis hypogaea L.” a peanut is one of the most important dried fruits in the food industry of the Fabaceae family. Peanut is a legume that grows in a pod from a herbaceous plant of South American origin. Between the 16th and 18th centuries, peanut consumption spread through the Discoveries of Christopher Columbus and the Industrial Revolution generated by economic expansion. However, peanut cultivation was practised by indigenous peoples since the 15th century. According to statistical data from 2018, in global terms, the three largest peanut producers will have been the following countries: China (1st), India (2nd) and Nigeria (3rd).

As for its benefits, peanuts can help you lose weight and balance blood sugar levels. In addition, it can promote cardiovascular health by controlling blood pressure and fighting anaemia. Due to its high-calorie content, peanut consumption should be controlled and practised following a healthy lifestyle.
