Cloves are the flowers bud of the tree Syzygium aromaticum native to the Maluku Islands (Indonesia). Normally, the harvest of these buds is done manually. Often associated with dental health, the Chinese may have used cloves for 400 years BC. According to cultural records, chewing this spice was quite common on the part of the subjects when requested by the Emperor. This was because it helped to reduce bad breath.
Known for their intense smell and characteristic taste, the Chinese have also used cloves to combat toothache. This spice is rich in antiseptic and aphrodisiac properties which may promote the treatment of indigestion, body discomfort and diarrhoea. Today, cloves are widely grown in tropical and subtropical countries such as Madagascar, Mozambique, and India. However, Tanzania is the world's largest producer of this spice.

Infusion time: 15 minutes
Recommended quantity: 1 dessert spoon, approximately 10gr. Drink at least 3 times a day.
Preparation: Place a litter of water (1 L) in a boiling pan with a dessert spoon of cloves. After boiling, remove it from the heat and let it rest for 15 minutes. Finally, strain and your clove tea will be ready to consume.
Culinary suggestions: Cloves can be consumed in cakes, bread, desserts, and broths. It is an excellent aromatic option to add to meat and fish dishes, even as sweet and savoury dishes. However, it is through infusion that its properties are best used and intensified when with cinnamon, lemon, and ginger. You can also use it to flavour your gin.
