Curiosities:
Lemongrass- Lemongrass, also known as lemon balm, lemongrass or lemon grass, is a plant from the Poaceae family and is native to the tropical regions of Asia. It contains around 70 per cent citral essential oil, which is also present in orange and lemon peels. This component is essential for the production of vitamin A, giving tea blends and tisanes their characteristic citrus aroma and flavour.
Hibiscus- Hibiscus, with the scientific name ‘Hibiscus L.’, is a plant from the Malvaceae family with around 300 species. Only a few of these species are edible, such as the popular Hibiscus sabdariffa, which is often used to make hibiscus tea. The vast majority of species are used as ornamental plants to decorate gardens. The origin of the hibiscus is unknown, however, it is suspected that its first productions began in Asia and East Africa. It later spread to Europe. In Greco-Roman and Egyptian mythology, the hibiscus is a flower associated with the feminine universe, being closely linked to the goddesses Aphrodite, Venus and Isis. There are various myths, legends and traditions about the hibiscus, such as the traditional practice in Tahiti, where young women wear hibiscus in their ears to indicate their love status. According to this tradition, women who place the flower in their right ear are open to finding a partner, while those who place it in their left ear are already committed. In addition, the hibiscus is often offered to tourists as a gesture of welcome to the country.
