The origin of the Nutcracker story comes from the tale ‘The Nutcracker and the Mice King’, written by E.T.A. Hoffmann in 1816. The story was later adapted into a ballet by Tchaikovsky in 1892. The story is about Clara, a girl who receives a magical nutcracker and, when she falls asleep, is transported to an enchanted world where she faces the king of the mice. The ballet version helped popularise the story even more, especially at Christmas parties.
