Curiosities
Lemongrass, also known as fever grass, originates from Central America and Southwest Asia and belongs to the Poaceae family. It is highly appreciated in the Caribbean, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia. This rustic herb thrives in mild climates with humidity and good sun exposure. In many countries, it is used as a vegetable and aromatic herb in various dishes combined with grated coconut, curry, fish, ginger, and meat. Fast-growing, lemongrass is a plant that contributes to both physical and mental well-being. Lemongrass tea is recommended for both hot and cold days.
Lemongrass contains about 70% citral essential oil rich in vitamin A, equal to that found in lemon and orange peel. It can help fight excessive sweating and even mitigate the effects of the athlete's foot. You can also use it as an insect repellent. If you are suffering from muscle pain or arthritis, you can soak some compresses in lemongrass tea and apply them to the affected areas. In Suriname (a South American country), this wonderful herb is used to fight cough, asthma, headaches, and fever. While in the West, it is used as a digestive tonic and natural calming of the nervous system.
