Losna Absinthe Herbal Tea

Ingredients: 100% Losna (Artemisia absinthium L.).

The components responsible for the medicinal use of the worm or absinth are: an essential oil (vermifuge and emenagogue), absintina (responsible for the bitter taste), resins, tannin, acids and nitrates. As a digestive and aperitif, its action is by stimulating the salivation and the production of gastric juices and, for this same reason, it is not recommended for people who present problems like ulcers and gastritis.

Properties: Used properly and without overeating, infusion of losna can increase bile secretion, favoring liver function and, taken in half an hour before the meal, can act as an appetite stimulant and aid in digestion.

Preparation: Place 1 tablespoon of tea in half a pint of boiled water and let stand for 10 minutes in a covered container.

Precautions: Use by pregnant women and children is not recommended. In addition, the maceration of the plant with alcohol, according to some studies already carried out, presents serious dangers, being able to provoke dependence, hallucinations and convulsions.

Curiosities: The word "vermouth" has everything to do with the losna: it means "warmwurz", meaning "hot root" and is the name of the German slab. In Greek, the word losna would mean "deprived of sweetness." Folk medicine advises against the use of losna by breastfeeding women because the plant "makes milk sour." Absinthe is famous since ancient times for its medicinal virtues, and is even quoted in an Egyptian papyrus dating from 1600 BC.
