Originally from the Atlantic Rainforest, it can be consumed in <\/span><b>various types of drinks, hot or cold<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This herb is harvested by &#8220;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yerbateros<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221; &#8211; growers &#8211; from <\/span><b>small farms and indigenous communities.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once harvested, the <\/span><b>leaves are dried and ground<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, placed in a mate and poured over with hot water. Originally, the Guarani used the dried leaves to prepare a stimulating drink called &#8220;<\/span><b><i>ka&#8217;a<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;, which means &#8220;herb&#8221; in the Guarani language.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The history of yerba mate goes back to the indigenous <\/span><b>Guarani people,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who have inhabited the South American region for thousands of years. For these people, yerba mate is a<\/span><b> sacred plant<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and its consumption is part of their <\/span><b>culture and tradition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It was they who discovered the <\/span><b>medicinal, energizing and refreshing properties of yerba mate.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yerba mate is <\/span><b>harvested by hand,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> requiring skill, knowledge, and care. The leaves are harvested when they reach the ideal point of ripeness and go through a<\/span><b> drying process<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to preserve their properties.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With its unique properties and ancestral tradition, yerba mate and the drinks derived from it are appreciated not only for the drink itself, but also for the <\/span><b>historical connection <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the southern region of Brazil and neighboring countries.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:200px\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"pswp-if-wrp\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/chasdomundo.pt\/module\/prestawp\/products?1&ids=33&content_only=1&isolang=en\" class=\"pswp-iframe\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" onload=\"pswp_hideLoader(this)\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:200px\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>What is Chimarr\u00e3o and Terer\u00e9?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yerba Mate can be consumed in different ways, either with<\/span><b> hot or cold water<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In Brazil, it is usually consumed in the form of <\/span><b>Chimarr\u00e3o or Terer\u00e9,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which are different drinks with similar roots.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Chimarr\u00e3o<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is made by infusing Yerba Mate with<\/span><b> hot water in a Cuia (gourd) using a Bombilha (chimarr\u00e3o pump).<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Bombilha then serves as a drinking straw. This method better<\/span><b> preserves the Yerba Mate&#8217;s nutrients<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Chimarr\u00e3o is rich in <\/span><b>medicinal and antioxidant properties. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Brazil, it has a brighter, stronger green color than Argentinian yerba mate.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Terer\u00e9<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the result of infusing Mate with <\/span><b>cold water and ice cubes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (optional ingredient) <\/span><b>in a gourd. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is, in essence, the iced version of Chimarr\u00e3o. Instead of water, some people use<\/span><b> citrus juice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It&#8217;s very popular in Paraguay during the summer. Its <\/span><b>stimulating and refreshing properties <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">make it an excellent drink to combat the heat.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of the two, Chimarr\u00e3o is the most common, especially in southern Brazil, as it is closer to the traditional drink. The god Tup\u00e3 presented him with yerba mate, which gave him the strength to accompany his tribe. The new drink became <\/span><b>a symbol of friendship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between warriors and an <\/span><b>ally against tiredness and loneliness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumed in groups, shared between friends who took small sips and passed it on to the next, this<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tradition was <\/span><b>passed down through generations<\/b><b>.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> From one community to another, it has become an identity of various Latin American peoples.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the first historical records of the consumption of yerba mate dates back to<\/span><b> the 16th century<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, when the Spanish came into contact with the Guaran\u00ed, an indigenous people who inhabited the territory where Paraguay is located today. It is known that this plant was banned for consumption in the 17th century by priests and that, after the ban, production decreased drastically. Later, when the missionaries realized that it was not a hallucinogenic herb, they allowed its consumption again.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Guarani used a<\/span><b> hollow gourd<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where they prepared the herbs with water. The herbs were <\/span><b>not strained, but filtered with their teeth<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or with a &#8220;tacuapi&#8221; &#8211; the direct ancestor of the bombarilla, which consisted of a bamboo cane. The Charr\u00faa of Uruguay and the Tup\u00ed of Brazil also used to<\/span><b> chew the leaves.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yerba mate was once used as currency, as it was<\/span><b> so valuable to the communities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that consumed it.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, the ritual surrounding yerba mate has adopted more contemporary traits. It requires<\/span><b> a gourd <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; or a ceramic container, or similar &#8211; <\/span><b>a bombilla <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; a kind of perforated straw that filters the leaves &#8211; and a <\/span><b>thermos <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to carry the hot water. The participants sit in a circle and one person fills the gourd with two-thirds of the herbs and a little warm water. The bombilla is inserted at an angle so that it doesn&#8217;t get clogged, and finally the rest of the head is filled with hot water. As the gourd is passed between the participants, it is refilled with water. Each round gradually becomes more bitter.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Properties and benefits of Yerba Mate tea<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yerba mate is one of the few plants <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that<\/span><b> naturally contains caffeine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Along with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Camellia Sinensis <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(pure teas), yerba mate is known for its energizing effect. With a bitter taste, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it can be compared to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">matcha<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> green tea.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When drunk slowly, yerba mate tea has <\/span><b>a gradual energizing effect.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Yerba mate is famous for being <\/span><b>as strong and energizing as coffee, as healthy as tea and as tasty as chocolate. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 150ml cup of yerba mate contains<\/span><b> around 80 mg of caffeine &#8211;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> almost the same as a cup of coffee.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is this caffeine that makes mate tea a powerful <\/span><b>ally against fatigue, speeding up the metabolism and relieving tiredness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It also releases <\/span><b>adrenaline, dopamine, serotonin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and various other stimulating neurotransmitters that help improve mood.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, yerba mate tea is packed with <\/span><b>various medicinal properties and health benefits<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You can drink up t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o <\/span><b>1 liter of mate tea a day.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Mate tea:<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mate tea can be prepared with either the <\/span><b>leaves or the dried branches of the herb<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, either loose or in sachets. However, loose tea is considered better. It can be consumed<\/span><b> hot or cold.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Water temperature: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">100 \u00b0C<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 tablespoon of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yerba mate leaves<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (roasted or dried)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Preparation with Caba\u00e7a:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boil water to the recommended temperature.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fill the gourd two-thirds or halfway with yerba mate.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Place your hand on the top of the Gourd and gently shake the inside of the Gourd sideways.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove your hand and place the Bombilha in a free space in the Cuia.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, add a little cold water and fill the Cuia with hot water. Avoid stirring the mixture.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To consume Ch\u00e1 Mate, simply drink it through the Bombilla. It is important to avoid preparing the infusion with water that is too hot, so as not to make it bitter.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Preparation with a pot:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put a cup of boiling water in a saucepan.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the water is hot, add the yerba mate leaves and cover.
